Bromsgrove man jailed for 10 months for growing cannabis

A BROMSGROVE man has been jailed after police discovered around 200 cannabis plants in his property.

Dang Phan, 28, of Barnfield Road in Bromsgrove was sentenced to 10 months in prison for the cultivation of cannabis after being found guilty at Worcester Crown Court today (June 5).

In December last year, officers conducted a drugs warrant at Barnfield Road after receiving community intelligence about a possible cannabis grow.

Officers from Bromsgrove Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) executed the warrant and discovered the approximate 200 cannabis plants in various stages of growth.

Phan pleaded not guilty but was found guilty unanimously by a jury at trial. The home office will now make a decision on whether to deport Phan.

SNT Inspector, Richard Field said: “The warrant was part of our on-going work to shut down the distribution of drugs in Bromsgrove.

“It was our partners and members of the community who told us of their concerns around drug supply at this address.

“The impact of drugs is felt in many ways, such as the exploitation of vulnerable people and an increase in other criminality or anti-social behaviour.

“While some people might think cannabis, for example, is just a bit of recreational fun, those who are supplying and profiting from dealing are often violent and dangerous criminals.”

Anyone concerned that someone may be growing or selling drugs in their area is urged to contact their local Safer Neighbourhood Team.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
