Bromsgrove Lib Dems launch petition, calling for all teachers to get Covid jab priority

CALLS have been made for all teachers and education staff to be put into prioritised for the Covid-19 vaccination.

Bromsgrove Liberal Democrat campaigner Joanna McKenna, an NHS consultant, launched a petition, calling on the Government to immunise school staff before face-to-face teaching returns.

The Lib Dems are concerned home schooling is taking its toll on both children’s mental and physical health.

Ms McKenna said: “Whichever way the Government wishes to proceed out of this lockdown they will need our children safely back at school.

“There are now 12 weeks between vaccination doses, so it is imperative school staff are vaccinated as a priority if there is to be any hope of schools returning.”

She added plenty of evidence suggested an increase in mental health issues among both children and adults confined to their homes.

“Let’s start to think about how lockdown will be lifted.

“Let’s do the right thing.

“Let’s make our classrooms safe so for when our children return to school.”

Fellow Bromsgrove Lib Dem campaigner Sam Evans called on people to sign the petition and added: “It is imperative schools are safe when they reopen, so let’s get the Government to ensure this.”
