Bromsgrove Lib Dems call on MP Sajid Javid to 'play his part in getting Boris Johnson sacked' after Sue Gray report

BROMSGROVE Liberal Democrats have called on the town’s MP Sajid Javid to play his part in getting Boris Johnson sacked in light of the publication of the long-awaited Sue Gray report.

The document – published on Monday – concluded there were ‘failures of leadership and judgement’ and excessive drinking at work in Downing Street during the pandemic.

Ms Gray said 16 of the events across 12 days between May 2020 and April 2021 fell into the remit of the investigation.

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed it is investigating 12 of the events, including the first one to come to light at 10 Downing Street on May 20, 2020.

Responding to the Sue Gray report, Bromsgrove Liberal Democrats chairman Dr David Nicholl, who has also worked on the frontline on Birmingham hospital Covid wards, said: “This is a damning moment for Boris Johnson.

“The Conservative MP for our area cannot hide behind lame excuses any longer.

“We all know whilst people in Bromsgrove made terrible sacrifices during lockdowns, Boris Johnson and his team were partying in Downing Street.

“We all have painful memories of that lockdown, from not being able to see dying relatives, to being separated for months on end from our friends and family.

“It is time for Health Secretary Sajid Javid to sack Boris Johnson. No more ifs or buts.

“It is an insult to everyone in our area to see the local Conservative MP refusing to sack a Conservative Prime Minister who broke the law and lied about it.”

In response Mr Javid said: “The Prime Minister has accepted the recommendations of the Sue Gray report in full.

“He has also offered his heartfelt apologies.

“In Parliament and Bromsgrove, I will be working hard to deliver on our packed legislative agenda for the British people, so we can build back better from the pandemic.”
