Bromsgrove kitten finds purr-fect home for the New Year

A CUTE kitten who survived against all odds is starting the new year in a purr-fect new home after being supported by Bromsgrove Blue Cross.

Joe, now 14 weeks old, was found by staff in a back garden alongside his siblings and two-year-old mum Emma, who was struggling to care for her seven kittens.

Blue Cross staff feared the kittens were going to die and brought them and mum Emma into the charity’s rehoming centre.

Bromsgrove Blue Cross animal welfare assistant Caroline Oram said: “Emma was so terrified that she had toileted over her litter and – perhaps due to the trauma she had endured – wasn’t producing enough milk to feed her young.”

The Blue Cross team provided supplement bottle feeds and before long the mum and kittens were back on their paws, with the cats all being named after the team that cared for them.

New homes were found for most of the other kittens, but Joe’s brother Martin developed a terminal neurological condition and despite tests and treatment, he passed away.

Caroline, who fostered the pair in her home, added: “It was heartbreaking to see. Martin was wobbling and unable to walk properly but he found such reassurance when with Joe.

“The brothers would always be cuddled up together, they loved each other so much.”

But on New Year’s Eve, Joe went to a new home, with new owner Rosie renaming him Ziggy, while mum Emma also found new loving owners just days before Christmas.
