Bromsgrove Household Recycling Centre to reopen tomorrow with booking system in place

Bromsgrove Editorial 24th Jul, 2020   0

BROMSGROVE’S Household Recycling Centre will re-open its gates tomorrow with a booking system in place to reduce congestion and queues during the busier times of the week.

Visitors will need to pre-book vehicles on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays as these are the busier times.

The remaining days, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be open as normal with no pre-booking required.

The number of booking slots available will be limited on these days so that social distancing measures can be maintained and queuing traffic on the highway avoided.

Worcestershire County Council shut the tip at Quantry Lane, Romsley, earlier in the week as the levels of traffic heading there were too high, drivers were overtaking each other in queues and social distancing measures were not being adhered to.

Residents took to social media and to our letters page in this week’s paper to express their anger, questioning why a booking system had not been introduced as part of the reopening – as other authorities, such as Birmingham City Council and Herefordshire County Council had done.

Coun Peter McDonald who campaigned to get the HRC reopened during the lockdown and has hit out at the county council for closing it said he was glad common sense had prevailed.

“I’m please the county council has responded so quickly and that a booking system has been put in place.

“People who needed to visit the tip were rightly angry with their waste levels building up and fly-tipping already on the increase, even after just a couple of days.”

Coun Tony Miller, Cabinet Member with Responsibility for the Environment, said: “I’m pleased that we are now able to re-open the Bromsgrove Household Recycling Centre following its closure earlier in the week.

“The booking system has been put into place to ensure visits to the centre remain as safe as possible and so that the impact to local highways and businesses is minimal.

“Please ensure when you visit during the busier periods, you have pre-booked and that all drivers visiting the centre are considerate towards other drivers and highways users. Please also be aware of the latest restrictions that are in place prior to your visit.”

The Bromsgrove Household Recycling Centre is open Monday to Sunday, 8am to 5pm with the last available appointment being at 4.45pm.

People should arrive as near as they can to their booked time slot as possible.

Staff may attempt to allow some leeway but arriving outside of your time slot may mean you are denied entry.

Visitors will need to display your pass generated by the booking system either in print or digital format upon entering the centre.

Strict social distancing measures will be maintained throughout, meaning staff will not be available to provide people with any unloading assistance.

People showing any symptoms of Covid-19 should not visit their local Recycling Centre.

For the latest guidance on COVID-19 measures, visit the Worcestershire County Council’s Coronavirus Information Page.

The Council is asking anyone who may need to visit any of the county’s Household Recycling Centres to check online the restrictions that will be in place and to confirm opening times prior to their visit.

Full details on restrictions currently in place at Household Recycling Centres can be found on the Let’s Waste Less website.
