BROMSGROVIANS will be braving the shave this weekend to help raise vital funds for a family to take their daughter on holiday after she’s gone through several life-saving operations.
The head shave to raise £6,000 for 13-year-old Millie Bedford’s holiday will take place at the Duke of York from 1pm on Saturday, with those taking part raising over £4,500 so far.
Others will also be taking part in the charity shave on Sunday.
Millie has Wiedemann Steiner Syndrome and has been in and out of hospital her whole life, putting a huge strain on her family.
Both her parents have had to take time off work to care for Millie and their other two children and they’ve had to completely renovate the top floor of their home to cater to Millie’s needs.
Family friend Simon Hadlington started a GoFundMe page to raise enough cash for a break after the family used up all their savings renovating their home for Millie.
After Millie had to have all her hair cut off so she could have brain surgery, Simon and the youngsters’ loved ones decided to show solidarity by doing a sponsored shave.
Millie will be at the Duke of York on the day helping out.
The Duke of York owner Anthony Theophanous, aka Fat Theo, was contacted to host the head shave for ‘warrior’ Millie and said he was more than happy to turn the idea into an event to raise more cash.
Anthony is also an independent comedy promoter and got some high-profile comedians and local businesses to donate towards raffle and auction prizes.
Simon said: “I know they are a proud family and they have all raised lots of money for the Wiedemann charity so I think a holiday is well deserved.
“We all wanted to show Millie she was not alone through this and to raise money for her break.
“This is for Millie, for all the hard work she does to raise money and all the suffering she’s been through and never once moaned about it- she truly is an inspiration.”
