Bromsgrove games design student lands dream job as Lego masterbuilder

A BROMSGROVE student has landed his dream job as a Lego masterbuilder, allowing him to merge his childhood passion with employment.

Oscar Goodhand-Wyatt, a Heart of Worcestershire (HOW) College Level 3 Games Design student, works as an assistant masterbuilder in Birmingham, which involves leading creative workshops and helping children make Lego sculptures around the attraction.

He developed his love for Lego after physiotherapists and occupational therapists encouraged it as a tool to help his social understanding and fine motor skills after being diagnosed with autism aged five.

The games design student was born with his arteries the wrong way around and had to have open heart surgery at just six days old, leading to development delays.

Oscar has constantly shown tenacity and proved to himself that all of the hard work he has had to put in to achieve at school and college has been worth it.

The Lego masterbuilder would commit to extra tuition for his GCSEs, attending lunchtime, after school and even weekend revision clubs in order to pass his chosen subjects and get a place at college.

Oscar explained feeling isolated at school but has since ‘found (his) people – a group of gaming geeks’ like himself after starting on his HOW College course.

He said: ā€œIā€™m really thrilled that Legoland have allowed me to continue my education whilst also living out my dream job of assistant masterBuilder.ā€
