Bromsgrove Flower Club 'blooming' as it celebrates its 65th anniversary

BROMSGROVE Flower Club has celebrated its 65th anniversary at its latest get-together.

The group meets every third Thursday at 2pm at All Saints Church Hall for demonstrations and guest speakers.

There was a time, after the pandemic, when numbers had dwindled and it was feared at one point the club may have to close.

But, by spreading the word via events, such as Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid’s Pensioners’ Fair, and in other ways, numbers climbed again to over 50 and, at one point, 70.

The member figures have now stabilised around 60 which is enough to see the group ‘bloom’ their way through this marvellous milestone.

At last Thursday’s celebration, as well as food and drink, demonstrator Penelope Harrison – who had filled in at short notice – showed what could be done with all greenery.

She is a NAFAS (National Association of Flower Arranging Societies) demonstrator and judge.

Bromsgrove Flower Club president Angela Harvey said: “The celebration went really well – the demonstrator was fantastic and the food was excellent.

“It’s great that we have got to this point – people can join as members or come to the presentations as visitors if they want to try us out first.

“We would still like more members, including some younger ones.”
