Bromsgrove Festival's action packed programme continues next week

THERE is plenty on the way at this year’s Bromsgrove Festival which begins this weekend with the annual Fair Day and a host of musical performances.

After the weekend, here are the next events.

Wednesday, June 26

The recent stage cast of Hamlet, featuring Ian McKellen, Francis Barber and Jonathan Hyde, will be screened at Fairfield Village Hall at 2.30pm.

Directed by Sean Mathias. the tale of reveenge is reimagined for the modern day as a gripping psychological thriller.

Then, at 7pm on Wednesday, an outdoor production of Julius Caesar will be performed by the renowned Oddsocks Theatre Company.




Egotistical emperor Caesar is sweating – Rome is in chaos and the peasants are revolting. Viewers can expect the tearing of togas, the swishing of swords and some preposterous puppetry – all created by just five actors.

Thursday, June 27

The CAMRA Bromsgrove Beer and Cider Festival gets under way on Thursday and runs until Saturday, June 29, offering connoisseurs 130 real ales and 50 ciders, along with food and entertainment.

The festival opens at 5pm on the Thursday and 11am on the Friday and Saturday.

Advance tickets are £20 which include entry, a festival glass and beer and cider tokens. Additional tokens are given to CAMRA members.

Mike Silver: Past Imperfect: The Journey Between the Songs takes place at Catshill Social Club, Meadow Road, at 8pm.

He is the latest artist to grace Bromsgrove Folk Club and Festival. Mike, one of the first artists to be signed to Elton John’s Rocket record label, uses photographs and music to paint a vivid and emotional picture of his life as a musician.

Admission is £10 for members, £12 for non-members or £5 for under 25s – payable on the door.

Saturday, June 29

‘Grandparents’ Games Day’ – a day of traditional pub and parlour games will be held at the Norton Collection Museum between 10am and 4pm for grandchildren to find out what amused their grandparents.

Likewise, there will be a selection of modern games and VR headsets for the grandparents to try so they can see what their grandchildren enjoy. Parents can also join in the fun too. Admission is free but donations towards the museum will be gratefully received.

Bromsgrove’s Artrix will host Fun in the Foyer between 1pm and 5pm. The event will feature entertainment, food, a cafe/bar and backstage tours. The event is free for all – go to artrixbromsgrove.co.uk for more information.

Curtain Call – the Stage Door Dance Academy’s 30th anniversary show – will take place between 7.30pm and 10.30pm at Artrix.

The celebration of dance and music from stage to screen offers something for everyone and fun for all the family.

Members of the academy from three years to adults will showcase their talent in genres including jazz, ballet, musical theatre, tap and acrobatics.

Tickets – available from artrixbromsgrove.co.uk – are £12 for adults and £10 for under 16s and over 60s.

The Midland Sinfonia will perform ‘Love and Romance’ at 7.30pm at St Laurence Church in Alvechurch.

The group will be accompanied by celebrated soloist Craig Ogden (guitar) and the programme will include Vivaldi’s Concerto in D and Boccherini’s Fandango.

Tickets – from midlandsinfonia.co.uk – are £15 or £3 for students and under 16s.

Alternatively, they can be bought in person from The Lounge or Gin and Pickles, The Square, Alvechurch.

Some tickets may be available on the door at £17.50 or £3 (above concessions) but booking in advance is recommended to avoid disappointment.
