Bromsgrove Festival set to go out with a bang

Bromsgrove Editorial 22nd Jul, 2022   0

THE CURTAIN comes down on this year’s Bromsgrove Festival after a month packed full of events to suit all tastes.

As part of the Queen’s Baton Relay, a celebration of Community and the Commonwealth takes place from 9am to 11am tomorrow (Saturday), featuring live music and other demonstrations.

People can create artwork on the theme of celebration and the Commonwealth Games, to be displayed in their homes and communities across the district. Painted rocks will be displayed in the Sanders Park Peace Garden and other art forms, including paintings, poetry, music or anything else is encouraged.

Bromsgrove’s BIG JAM – a fund-raising jam session to provide aid for Ukraine – takes place at the events area, Worcester Road, from 2.30pm tomorrow (Saturday).

WuzikMuzik will give people the chance to play their instruments and raise funds for Ukrainian refugees.

Musicians will get together to collectively play many well-known songs.

All the chords will be projected onto a large screen so everyone can follow! All donations go to Busar – Bromsgrove Ukrainian Support and Relief.

Avonbank Brass Band – based in Evesham – will be next up at Sanders Park’s Jubilee Bandstand at 2.30pm on Sunday, July 24.

It is part of the free Bands in the Park sessions and people are urged to bring their own chairs, blankets and a picnic for a relaxing afternoon.

Open air theatre returns to Avoncroft Museum on Sunday with Oddsocks Productions’ ‘Hamlet The Comedy’.

The Shakespeare favourites are back at the venue with the play which finds the eponymous royal student returning home for the summer holidays to find something rotten in the state of Denmark.

Mum’s married Uncle Claudius and dad’s dishing the dirt from his grave – it’s enough to make a teenager mad and things will never be the same again in the Hamlet household.

This is billed as ‘Shakespeare’s famous tragedy performed as you’ve never seen before with lots of laughs, music and memorable moments’.

Tickets are £19 (£16 concessions) and £13 for children. Visit avoncroft.org.uk or oddsocks.co.uk for more.

Love and the Sea – the Bromsgrove Festival’s grand finale concert – takes place at 6.30pm on Sunday, July 24, at St John’s Church.

The event has been organised by the Orchestra of St John, Richard Jenkinson will conduct and soloist Claire Prewer will take centre stage.

Music includes Tchaikovsky: Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture, Chausson: Poem of Love and the Sea, Opus 19 and Rachmaninov: Symphony No 2 in E minor, Opus 27.

Tickets are £10 for adults, accompanied children go free and refreshments are served during the interval.

Get tickets at Decanter Spirit (49 High Street, Bromsgrove), from osjbromsgrove.org or www.priorbooking.com or on the door.
