Bromsgrove families’ flood misery as water mains bursts

RESIDENTS have been left devastated after a water mains pipe burst, flooding their homes in the early hours of Monday morning.

Those living on Foxwalks Avenue were awoken to their waterlogged properties and more than £1,000 worth of damages.

One mum of a one-year-old child said: “Initially, I just heard water and wondered where it was coming from.

“Then there was loads of water coming from my front door.

“I opened it, and it was like the River Thames had come into my hallway.

“It was muddy water – it smelt so bad.”

It was not until she arrived back later that day – after having to sleep at her mum’s – she saw the damage caused by the flooding.

“It was like my world has been flipped upside down – I felt sick.”

Carpets, wardrobes, child toys and clothes need to be replaced and because she does not have home insurance, she will have to pay for the damages herself.

“I cannot afford to replace things this close to Christmas.

“I do not think I can have a family Christmas or even a Christmas at all.”

At 4am Severn Trent and the fire service closed the pipe’s valve and

by 11am teams had completed the repair and residents’ supply was back on.

Stevie Hazelden, who was walking his dog at the time, said: “I could see it run down into about five or six different homes so I tried knocking on doors to wake people up to let them know what was happening – none of them woke up.

“There was one man running around in his pants and socks trying to deal with it.”

A Severn Trent spokesperson said: “We apologise to any customers who experienced a temporary loss of supply as a result of the burst, as well as the two properties affected by flooding.

“We will be in close communication with those affected and will continue to work hard to return the area back to normal as soon as possible.”
