Bromsgrove District Council says all rough sleepers in the town have been housed

ALL rough sleepers in the town have been housed, according to Bromsgrove District Council.

Local authorities were asked by the Government earlier this week to house all rough sleepers by this weekend.

Bromsgrove District Council claims that all rough sleepers in the town have accommodation.

Coun Shirley Webb, portfolio holder for housing, said: “Officers have been working closely with their colleagues at Bromsgrove District Housing Trust to ensure that no-one is rough sleeping in Bromsgrove.

“Specialist support providers Caring for People and Communities have also helped too, creating a position where vulnerable residents are now safely away from the streets and housed this weekend in line with government expectations.

“More broadly, all councils in Worcestershire are working together. This is alongside voluntary sector partners to find appropriate accommodation to offer to each individual currently rough sleeping across the county.

“Officers from each council’s housing team are committed to sourcing suitable accommodation as quickly as possible.”

Rough sleepers have faced a particularly tough time in recent weeks given the latest lockdown advice for people to stay at home.

They are also significantly more likely to have underlying health conditions – including respiratory problems – than the wider population.
