Bromsgrove District Council chairman chooses her charity for the civic year ahead

THE CHAIRMAN of Bromsgrove District Council, Coun Sam ammar, has chosen Age UK as this year’s civic charity, writes Emily Allbutt.

The announcement was made at the charity’s Bromsgrove Men in Sheds event in Stoke Prior – a scheme which brings together men who have lost loved ones or are retired.

Age UK is an independent charity which supports older people, their families, and carers.

Coun  Ammar said the reason she chose the charity dated back to May, during her election campaign, when she met an elderly man named John who had recently lost his wife.

She said: “When I was elected as chairman, I knew immediately I wanted to support a charity that gives joy and help to people like John.

“I am very thankful to the people at Age UK who help the elderly through difficult situations.

“It is a very impactful charity and I look forward to helping to raise funds for them at civic events all across the district this year, with the support of my colleagues in the council chamber.”
