THE new chairman of Bromsgrove District Council has been selected, replacing Coun Caroline Spencer.
Coun Rod Laight was chosen by fellow Tory members at the town’s council meeting last week.
Coun Beaumont will act as vice chairman.
After being presented with the chain of office by chief executive Kevin Dicks, Coun Laight said: “Caroline will always have a special place in my heart. She’s a lovely lady.
“I shared a ward with her four years ago and we’ve had some great years since then.
“So on behalf of everyone we would like to say a massive ‘thank you’ for the wonderful year you’ve had.
“We do hope you’ve enjoyed every minute of it.”
Coun Laight says he intends to be a chairman who ‘speaks very little’ and only when he needs to, or is called upon.
He added: “We have some superb officers in this authority and everyone of them have my full support.
“I’m really excited to find out what the future holds.”
Coun Spencer, who was presented with flowers at the meeting, said: “It was an honour to serve as chairman.
“It’s been such a rewarding experience and I’ve met so many wondeful people, of all ages, during my time.
“I can sit back and relax now but my job as a councillor will continue.”
