CYCLIST Mick Quinn, 71, rode for 70 miles in and around Tenby in support of the National Deaf Children’s Society.

Undeterred by the cancellation of the official ‘Long Course Weekend’ event, Mick decided to take on the challenge solo.

Mick, from Bromsgrove, said: “Having prepared for the event I really wanted to see it through, so I decided to do the ride even though the actual one was cancelled.

“There were some quite steep hills along the way, but I kept thinking about why I was doing this in the first place and that’s what kept me going.”

He raised £650 for the National Deaf Children’s Society, which supports the UK’s 50,000 children and their families.

Elle Billinge, who assists fund-raisers for the National Deaf Children’s Society, said: “I want to say a huge thank you to Mick for taking on this solo cycle ride for us.

“To carry on with the challenge despite the cancellation of the official event really is going above and beyond, and we’re so grateful.”
