Bromsgrove councillor to get on his bike to help raise funds for Acorns Children's Hospice

BROMSGROVE District Councillor Peter Whittaker will be among a group cycling from Worcester to Bath to raise funds for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

The Tardebigge representative and the rest of the peloton will set off tomorrow (Saturday), riding more than 100 miles between the two cities’ rugby clubs via Evesham, Pershore, the Cotswolds and Bretforton.

Peter said up until six weeks ago, he had hardly done any cycling since his youth.

“The last time I got on a bike before that was back in the 1960s when I went around youth hostels with a friend – we did a few miles then,” he said.

He said this all came about because some friends, who are part of the group doing this ride, cycled from Worcester to Aberdovey last year.

He saw the posters for the fund-raiser to Bath and, having vowed to get fit at the start of the year and shed a stone and a half with Slimming World, he thought it was a good time to do it.

“I’m 65 this year, so I’m running out of time to do something like this.”
