THE PEOPLE of Bromsgrove rallied together once more for the funeral of a local veteran who had cash stolen from his home just days before his death.
Almost 100 people including family, friends and strangers turned up for Cyril Maddox’s funeral at All Saint’s Church last Wednesday, July 25.
This is not the first time the community has pulled together because it also managed to raise more than £1,000 for Mr Maddox’s family after news broke about the £600 which was taken from his bedside.
Some of the money was spent on a pigeon-shaped floral tribute which had a ribbon attached underneath saying ‘from the people of Bromsgrove’.
Mr Maddox enjoyed pigeon-flying as a hobby when he was younger and his daughter Kerry Crisp thought it would be a nice gesture after so much money was raised.
She said: “It was a beautiful service and the best send off that we could possibly ask for.
“The church was completely packed so thank you to everyone who came.”
After the funeral service well-wishers headed to the wake which was held at Catshill Social Club.
“Not as many came to the wake but it was lovely to just spend time with family and friends.”
