Bromsgrove Community Arts 'overwhelmed' as 200 Artrix volunteers come forward

REPRESENTATIVES from Bromsgrove Community Arts (BCA) say they are ‘overwhelmed’ after an appeal for volunteers to support shows being put on at Artrix saw more than 200 people come forward in just days.

The newly formed BCA – a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) – will be co-ordinating The Core @ Artrix’s front of house and bar staff volunteers.

We reported exclusively on last week’s front page how, after RAAC concrete was discovered in the roof above The Core’s auditorium, it needed to find alternative venues for its shows and the Artrix deal is part of that.

So far the Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime, due to start on December 15, will take place at Artrix and bosses at The Core are speaking to other production groups, including amateur dramatics companies, to ask if they want to move their shows to the Bromsgrove venue.

The BCA is aimed at providing venues and facilities within Bromsgrove for groups to use for art activities, focusing on a community and volunteer-led approach.

The group’s trustees are prominent individuals from the arts world in Bromsgrove.

The group, under the chairship of Kyle Daisley, was started in the summer following the call from the Artrix Holding Trust for a new operational arm for the much loved Artrix arts centre.

Mr Daisley said “We are thrilled to be providing crucial support to The Core Theatre as they move their shows to Artrix.

“We are delighted Artrix was able to step up and offer this support at such a difficult time for the Solihull venue.

“We are equally as thrilled with the number of people who have come forward to volunteer front of house and behind the bar – it is more than we could have ever dreamed of.

“With a solid team and a group of keen volunteers I am confident that this residency will be a success, and what a joy it is to see the doors of our much loved local theatre opening again.”

After breaking the story about Artrix’s imminent reopening last week, our social media pages were inundated. The story on our Facebook page received 1,200 reactions, 168 comments and 157 shares with even more on local community groups and pages.
