Bromsgrove Chief nursing officer running London marathon

A CHIEF nursing officer from Bromsgrove will be taking on the 26.2mile course to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities UK.

Sam Foster works at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and said meeting the ‘amazing team’ there made her determined to raise funds for the cause.

The Ronald McDonald House, just moments away from the John Radcliffe Hospital, opened in 2020 and accommodates and supports families of young patients admitted to the Children’s Hospital.

Sam, above, has been training with her friend ahead of her first-ever marathon, and the 49-year-old said she was feeling ‘excited but nervous’ about the challenge.

She said: “I’m not a big runner usually. I might do 5k on a weekend or plod around the block, so this is a huge feat for me to take on.

“I’m grateful for all the support I’ve received and tips I’ve picked up on London Marathon Facebook pages.

“My husband Mark, a Colonel in the Royal Army Medical Corps, is an ultra-marathon runner, so he’s been a good source of advice too.”

Sam has raised more than £3,000 but hopes to get to £5,000, which is the amount it costs to sponsor a room at the house for a year.
