Bromsgrove chairman scores hole-in-one with charity fund-raiser

BROMSGROVE District Council chairman Coun Sam Ammar’s golf and dinner fund-raiser proved to be a hole-in-one as it raised almost £2,000 for a town charity close to her heart.

Cash raised by last weekend’s event at the town’s golf centre will be going to Coun Ammar’s chosen charity, Age UK, Bromsgrove, Redditch and Wyre Forest.

The event saw local businesses as well as Alvechurch Football Club and the parish council put together teams of golfers.

Several local firms also sponsored the event.

Guests included leaders of all the Council’s political groups as well as the charity’s chairman.

While campaigning for the May election, Coun Ammar met an elderly man named John who had recently lost his wife.

It was this meeting which spurred her to choose the local Age UK branch, which supports elderly people across the district, as her charity.

She said: “Of all the doors I knocked on and all the conversations I had, my chat with John remained with me throughout the day and beyond.

“So when council colleagues gave me the privilege to represent them as chairman, I knew the charity I wanted to support for the year ahead would be one that helps people like John.

“Age UK does just that and is it my honour to support them locally and know that each penny will help Bromsgrove’s residents.”
