THE FUTURE of Bromsgrove carnival is in doubt as organisers reveal they are facing the same pressures that have led to neighbouring events being cancelled.
Organisers have said they were doing everything humanly possible behind the scenes to keep the Bromsgrove Carnival alive and kicking for 2026- but admitted they can’t do it alone anymore.
The carnival is facing skyrocketing costs, and its tiny team of volunteers is facing increasing pressure.
Organisers have also revealed the carnival is struggling with dwindling funding and they are relying solely on donations, sponsorships and stall fees.
A rallying call has now been made for sponsors to help with funding, and more volunteers to help keep the carnival going.
In the past month alone, two other North Worcestershire Carnivals have announced they are cancelling their 2026 events.
The organisers of Stourport carnival, which has been running for 100 years, announced they were dissolving their society back in January.
Just a week later, Wolverley Carnival revealed it would not be holding a 2026 event.
A spokesperson for Bromsgrove Carnival said: “We’re sitting here with a bit of a heavy heart.
“You might have seen the news that our neighbours over at both Stourport Carnival and Wolverley Carnival have had to make the incredibly difficult decision to cancel their 2026 events.
“And with Redditch Carnival also missing from the calendar for a few years now, it’s a sobering reminder that these community traditions aren’t guaranteed. They don’t just happen.
“The truth is, we are feeling the exact same pressures; running a free event on this scale for Bromsgrove is becoming a monumental mountain to climb.
“We love this carnival. We love seeing the streets lined with smiling faces and the incredible effort the local groups put into their floats and performances.
“If you’ve ever thought, I’d love to help out with that, now is the time to speak up.
“We need volunteers and boots on the ground.
“Local businesses, if you can help us, please let’s talk. You’ll be helping save a piece of Bromsgrove history.”
Last year’s carnival attracted hundreds of people as the parade journeyed from North Bromsgrove High School to Sanders Park.
Sanders Park also had entertainment from a funfair, food and drink, dance displays and a live music stage.
