Bromsgrove butchers receives Christmas cash boost after 'toughest year yet'

A BROMSGROVE butchers received a much-needed boost in the run-up to Christmas after one of their ‘hardest years yet.’

Butcher’s Block found itself in dire need of replacing its oven and so ran a raffle in a bid to raise the funds needed.

The raffle features prizes including one of each of their festive hampers, a meal for two with drinks at Verraco Lounge, and a bowling for five and games bundle from Hollywood Bowl Rubery.

It is estimated to cost over £2,500 to replace the oven, but one generous supporter, who wished to remain anonymous, generously donated £5,000 to help them update equipment and boost the fundraising.

That takes the current fundraiser to a total of £7,000, plenty for the team to update the oven, invest in clothing, branding, and updating equipment.

The Butchers Block team said: “After what’s been a tough year in business for many and with an old oven in need of replacement, the team behind the Butchers launched a fundraiser to help that happen.

“A lot of tears were shed as the £5,000 donation was game-changing for us. We couldn’t have imagined in our wildest dreams of receiving that amount from one person.

“We would both like to say a huge thank you to everyone in the community who has supported and helped us.

“It’s been an emotional and love-filled few weeks, and good luck to everyone who’s entered.”

The raffle will be drawn at the end of the day, this Saturday, December 20, with a prize pot of over £400.

Despite raising cash for their own shop, the Butchers Block team will still be supporting local charities this Christmas, with a goodie bag collection for The Basement Project.

The shop is also having a memory tree where people can hang a decoration in memory of a loved one, with people able to donate to Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer if they wish.
