Bromsgrove business owner helps Felixstowe Port prepare for Brexit

A BROMSGROVE business owner turned round an important order in just 48 hours to help the UK’s busiest container port prepare for Brexit.

Rod Laight, who owns Reddifast Steels Ltd, supplied posts and pedestrian handrail extension equipment for a 100metre stretch of improved HGV Armco barrier and vehicle restraint structures at Felixstowe.

Staff pulled out all the stops, working around the clock, to fulfil the order in just two days rather than the usual five.

The equipment was collected from the Reddifast factory earlier this month by Wallace Protection Systems and driven direct to the port, along with a team of specialist fitters.

Expansion and infrastructure upgrades have been taking place across Felixstowe for several years, to boost capacity and efficiency in preparation for the new customs routines and systems coming into force from January 1.

MD Mr Laight said: “We responded to an urgent situation as Hutchison Ports, Felixstowe’s owner, ramps up its programme of improvements at the port.

“Successfully fulfilling the contract in such a timely manner was in no small part due to our steel supplier in Sheffield which made sure we had the necessary materials in time to allow us to complete the order so quickly.

“This was truly a team effort and I’m proud of everyone involved.”

Reddifast Steels, based in Cradley Heath, was established by Mr Laight in 1999.
