A BROMSGROVE boy is running the Worcester Race For Life for Cancer Research, in memory of his nan and her brave battle with the illness.

Noah Lawley, who is 10 and will take on the 5K course on Sunday, July 9, has also received the backing of Bromsgrove District Council Chairman, Coun Sam Ammar.

Coun Ammar has written to Noah – her first official letter on the council’s headed notepaper – wishing him luck.

Noah’s grandmother was diagnosed with the illness.

On his fund-raising page, he said: “I decided to do this to help my nanny and others who suffer with this cruel illness and to make my nanny proud.

“My nanny recently passed away so now I am so determined to carry on with this even though I am so upset.”

Coun Ammar was alerted to Noah’s efforts by his mum’s friend who asked if she could support him on this very difficult jourrney which he started as he wanted to save her and others.

Coun Ammar said: “Pockets of unconditional love are so rare and heart-warming. “Children who display such compassion and selflessness must be applauded and encouraged every step of the way.

“It is hard to know how to meet such loving actions, as any sort of acknowledgment falls short of what this little, lovely boy is about.

“So, with humbleness I decided to use my first ever council letter head to write Noah words of encouragement and give him a small gift.

“I wish I could do more, but I know that nothing will ever come close to what he really wants.

“I am sure his grandma was always very proud of Noah and that he brings joy to all his family and friends.”

Noah set out to raise £500 but his tenacity has already seen him surpass the £3,100 mark.
