THE FINAL tally is in for the number of festive food parcels Bromsgrove’s Basement Project has been able to deliver to young people who are either homeless or at risk of homelessness.
The charity took part in the Big Give campaign where it was aiming to raise £11,000. Because the Basement was chosen by the Big Give Christmas Challenge it meant everything pledged would be match-funded.
The drive took place over seven days and by the end – with the match funding – the Basement Project notched up £10,912.
The charity has been able to deliver 272 festive parcels to ensure the young people, up to the age of 25 and families will not go hungry this Christmas and more importantly, will not have to choose between ‘heating and eating’.
One recipient of a festive food parcel said they ‘burst into tears’ as they had seen items they could not afford and ‘they had not seen so much food in their house for such a long time’.
Another young person said it would be a huge help, it meant a lot and they almost cried when they saw what they were getting.
The Basement Project said it would like to thank everyone who gave to the cause, Bromsgrove District Council for its assistance and wish everyone a very merry Christmas.
