Bromsgrove artists to give 'behind the scenes insight' during Worcestershire Open Studios event

ARTISTS from Bromsgrove and Droitwich are among those opening the doors to their studios over the bank holiday weekend.

The Worcestershire Open Studios – the county’s biggest free art event – returns for its sixth year and runs from next Saturday to Monday, August 28 to 31.

Visitors will get an behind the scenes insight into how artists create their work with 82 taking part at 58 different venues.

Among those opening their studios are painters Gillian Simpson (Bromsgrove), Suzanne Nicholl (Hagley) and cyanotype artist Anne Guest from Alvechurch.

In Droitwich there is artist Sylvie Millen, ceramicists Chris Bell and Sally White who both work out of the pottery at the Jinney Ring Craft Centre and Eva Walters, who designs cross stitch and jewellery, in Hanbury.

Gillian said, “Being part of Worcestershire Open Studios for the last three years has been such a joy.

“It’s been wonderful to meet and chat about art.

“I’m excited too to be able to share some new work, including sketchbooks and works in progress, and I’m really looking forward to this first real opportunity for feedback, and for some great chats about art, materials and how I work.”

Suzanne added: “I am so looking forward to my first open studios event.

“I am a full time artist and work out of a lovely studio which used to be an old coach house, situated beside my home.

“Having recently installed a painting wall and refurbished the space, visitors can expect to see a fully working studio, filled with artist paraphernalia, work in progress and a variety of finished pieces to view, many of which are for sale.”

Entry to all venues is free and visitors will also be invited to enter a free prize draw.

Event sponsors, Bevere Gallery, have donated a £250 voucher towards artwork or framing from their gallery.

There is also a prize of a £100 voucher, which can be used to purchase artworks from one of our participating artists.

Full details of how to enter will be available at each artist’s studio.

Visitors can plan their route with an interactive postcode search on the Worcestershire Open Studios website or by picking up a map in libraries and tourist information centres.
