Bromsgrove and Redditch fire crews use drone to help find missing Alexandra Hospital patient

A VULNERABLE patient who had gone missing from the Alexandra Hospital was found by Redditch and Bromsgrove firefighters by using a drone.

After searching inside and around the hospital grounds during the early hours of this morning (July 31), firefighters, with the help of West Mercia Police, decided to widen the search.

They flew the drone high up into the sky in a bid to spot the woman on its camera.

After three hours of searching, the team from Redditch Fire Station, which includes council Leader and watch commander Matt Dormer, found the missing woman in a grassy area half a mile away from the hospital.

She was cold due to the falling temperatures but responded well to the team who asked her if she was okay.

Police then transported the woman back to the Alex, where she is undergoing treatment.

Station commander Jon Laight said: “Hard work, recognised techniques and planning between the police, fire crews and staff at the hospital resulted in us finding this vulnerable member of our community.”
