ORGANISATIONS across the county have been showing their support for the White Ribbon campaign and the ‘16 Days of Action’ against domestic abuse and sexual violence.

The 16 Days started on the United Nation’s International Day of Elimination of Violence Against Women (White Ribbon Day) on November 25, and runs until Monday, December 10, which is the UN’s Human Rights Day.

An event, organised by the North Worcestershire Community Safety Partnership and hosted by Bromsgrove District Council, was held at the Council House at Parkside and there has been a professional support service offered by West Mercia’s Womens Aid and Worcestershire Rape and Sexual Assault Centre.

Coun Peter Whittaker, Bromsgrove District Council’s portfolio holder for community safety, said: “We want to make it easier for people to recognise domestic abuse and get the support that could help them and their loved ones.”

Droitwich Spa Football Club, Wychavon District Council and Malvern Hills District Council are also backing the White Ribbon campaign.

The Saltmen wore white ribbons for their County Cup Quarter Final against Inkberrow which they won 2-1.

Anyone wanting to show their support for the White Ribbon campaign can do so on social media using the hashtags #WhiteRibbon, #DomesticAbuse and #DomesticViolence.

The 24-hour domestic abuse helpline run by Women’s Aid can be reached by calling 0800 980 3331.
