GARDENS in Bromsgrove and Barnt Green will be opening their gates for good causes as part of the National Garden Scheme on Sunday, May 29.
Perryfields Road, Bromsgrove
The first – at 3 Perryfields Road, Bromsgrove – is a lawned garden with an informal well-stocked island, long curved borders with all-round interest and colour.
It also boasts a variety of fruit trees, acers, grasses, roses, shrubs, perennials, alpines and spring flowering bulbs within an overall cottage garden theme.
Light refreshments and plants for sale will also be available during the event from 2pm to 5.30pm on Sunday.
Brookwood Drive, Barnt Green
This garden is divided into different rooms – each with its own theme.
The back garden is dominated by large trees under-planted with shade loving plants and sunnier areas accommodating colour-themed perennials.
A lower terrace contains a wildlife pond and bog garden with ferns and astilbes.
Pathways link different zones and lead to an enchanted child’s garden and play area.
The front garden includes a formal white garden, rose border and cutting garden. Seating areas are interspersed throughout the garden offering shady and sunny vantage points.
It opens from 10.30am to 5pm with admission at £5 and donations for children’s admission.
Oak Tree House, Birmingham Road, Marlbrook
Open from 1.30pm to 5.30pm, this is a ‘Plantswoman’s’ garden overflowing with plants, pots and interesting artefacts.
The patio features plants and shrubs for spring and there is a small pond and waterfall.
There is plenty of seating, separate wildlife pond, water features, alpine area and a rear open vista, along with scented plants, hostas, dahlias and lilies.
There is a conservatory with art created by the owners.
Visitor HS said: “Such a wonderful peaceful oasis”.
Admission is £4 for adults, free for children and light refreshments are available.
