BRIGHT pupils at North Bromsgrove High School have excelled in a senior maths challenge.

Ethan Jones was awarded a Silver certificate which launched him into the top 20 per cent of pupils in the country.

Ben Harvey, Joseph Barnes, Ben Smith and Adam James achieved Bronze putting them into the top 30 per cent nationwide.

The GCSE and A-level based challenge, run by United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT), consisted of 25 multiple choice problems.

Calculators were not allowed during the 90-minute test which is open to anyone in Year 13 and below.

It’s aim is to encourage mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems.

Math teacher at North, Matthew Man, said: “These certificates will look good on their CVs when planning the next step ahead, whether that is university or work.

“In February we will be inviting students from the top groups of Years 9 and 10 to participate in the UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge.

“We are looking forward to seeing more success for the future.”
