BREAKING - Prime Minister Boris Johnson wins confidence vote

PRIME Minister Boris Johnson has won his confidence vote after the majority of Conservative MPs backed him in tonight’s poll.

Mr Johnson had 211 voting for him and 148 voting against him.

The vote was announced early this morning after a sufficient number of letters of no confidence meant the threshold had been passed.

Earlier today Bromsgrove MP and the Secretary of State for Health and Scocial Care Sajid Javid announced he would be backing the PM.

After the vote he tweeted: “Tonight the PM has secured a fresh mandate from the parliamentary party.

“Now we need to unite and focus on the country’s challenges.

“Boosting economic growth, tackling the Covid backlogs, protecting our national security, and so much more.”

Previously he told The Standard he did not feel the time was right for a change in leadership, adding with the cost of living crisis and war in Ukraine, the Government needed to be focused on tackling the issues facing the country and abroad.

The number of no confidence letters came after the ‘Partygate’ scandal which has plagued the party over the past few months and the long-awaited publication of Sue Gray’s report into the lockdown get-togethers at Number 10, along with pictures and details of what happened at the gatherings.
