Book exchange opened on Bromsgrove's Oakalls estate

READING could be the perfect way to beat lockdown boredom for Oakalls residents after a book exchange was set up on the estate.

Penshurst Road resident Sam Williams mooted the idea on Facebook and, after getting a positive response, placed a weatherproof box of books under the noticeboard. Another one was added by Alexa Downs.

Each time users take a book away they leave another one in its place.

All books are welcome and people are advised to wipe down books and place them in a plastic foodbag before putting them in the box to avoid spreading the virus.

There has already been plenty of positive feedback on Facebook about the scheme.

Sam said: “It’s a great example of the community spirit we all enjoy here on the Oakalls.”

The noticeboard is on Royal Worcester Crescent, opposite Davenham Road.

Due to the many favourable Facebook comments, Coun Caroline Spencer has agreed to speak to the council to see if a more permanent structure could be put in place in the future.
