BLUE Cross Bromsgrove are pleading for their ‘loneliest’ dog to be rehomed after he has spent nearly 500 days in their care.

Duke, a 10 year-old Staffordshire bull terrior, has been patiently waiting for a forever home since moving into Blue Cross’ rehoming centre in Bromsgrove in Jan ’22 after his owner fell ill and could no longer care for him.

The Staffordshire bull terrior is a sweet and lovable dog, brimming with personality so the team thought he’d find a new forever home in no time.

After arriving at the Blue Cross shelter, Duke was not coping well with living in kennels. He was stressed and the living situations were causing problems with his mental and physical health.

Laura Coveney, rehoming supervisor at the shelter said: ““Duke found kennels so tough. He was so stressed and was not coping at all.”

Duke has since been in permanent foster care with Christine Tilt, who became a Blue Cross foster carer in 2022 having been a lifelong supporter of the charity, alongside her husband.

Its thanks to foster carers like Christine that dogs like Duke get the care and attention they need, helping reduce the stress of living in kennels whilst they await their rehoming.

Laura added:“It’s frustrating that we can’t show what a lovely companion he is, and how easy he is to live with. It’s such a shame as he would perfectly fit into so many families’ lives.

“He’s the dog people are looking for – they just don’t realise it. And so, they don’t look in his direction.

“If you ask them what they want from a dog, it’s Duke. He’s the ultimate rescue dog.

“Duke’s the dog who proves the saying ‘you can’t teach an old dog new tricks’ wrong. He’s learnt so much since he’s been with Christine. He’s just been really unlucky. It’s heartbreaking.”

Christine said: “He’s got so much character. He just wants to be loved. It will just be so lovely to see him go to a new home.

“I know he’ll be happy and know that he’ll settle down easily.”
