THERE was some bloomin’ success stories at the 75th annual chrysanthemum show at Bromsgrove’s Burcot Garden Centre.

Grower George Proverbs won two trophies, including ‘best spray’ and also took silver medals in best vase and best exhibit, along with a bronze.

Sid Webb woth the R&D Anson Trophy in the ‘one vase five blooms’ category and certificates of merit went to John Hadley and Rita Fox.

The most points overall were scored by Chris Amphlett who also entered the most categories.

John Rogers, from the Shirley Chrysanthemum Society which holds the event, said despite difficult climatic conditions there was almost 90 blooms which was a good show.

“There weren’t that many members of the public but those who did come took a keen interest in the show and we might have some new growers for next year’s show.

“We’d like to say a big thank you to the garden centre for accommodating us and being so welcoming.”

Everyone is now looking forward to the late flowering show at Burcot Garden Centre on November 8.
