A BROMSGROVE postie who had done the same round for 43 years was given a big surprise as he hung up his bag to start his retirement.
Terry Grazier has delivered to homes in Bournheath and Belbroughton since 1980 and – to celebrate him calling it a day – a special reception was held for him at The Nailer’s Arms, complete with drinks and a buffet.
More than 100 of his customers packed into the cosy pub and when Terry arrived this afternoon, he was greeted with cheering, choruses of ‘For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow’ and presented with a retirement gift of £1,620.
The final total – collected through a JustGiving page – will be even more and is currently up to £1,777.
Lauren Stinton, whose idea it was to start the collection and organised the event, said: “We have only lived here for eight years but he has been a stalwart.
“When we arrived, Frank was only young and through his toddler years, Terry used to wait at the gate and hand the post to him.
“He has always had a smile on his face and was fantastic during all these years – some of them during Covid.
“We are all going to miss him.”
Frank added: “He is the best postman ever.”
Coun Karen May, Bromsgrove District Council leader and Belbroughton resident, said: “He’s a fantastic example of how effective a member of the community can be.
“We all want to thank him for all he has done in the past 43 years.”

In a speech from behind the bar, Terry said: “It’s been so nice serving you all – you’ve all been excellent.
“I feel very humble stood here – I’ll still be around the village for a catch-up.
“I hope you all stay happy and healthy.”
To the Standard he added: “They are a lovely community and like a family to me after all this time.
“I must have spoken to every person on my round over the years.”
And when it came to his retirement plans, modest Terry said: “I’ve got quite a few little gardening jobs to do, so I’ll start with them.”
