FORMER Chancellor of the Exchequer and Home Secretary Sajid Javid welcomed the US election result, saying having Joe Biden in the White House us much better for the UK.
Speaking to the Standard the Bromsgrove MP said: “I think it’s a good outcome for us.
“The leader of the United States will have an impact on us and we have much more in common and more areas of mutual interest with Joe Biden than we ever did with Donald Trump.”
Mr Javid said Mr Biden’s approaches to the main issues were more in line with the UK.
He said the president elect would take the pandemic much more seriously than his predecessor.
“Mr Biden also believes in free trade agreements whereas Trump was a protectionist so that should also be better for us.
“With the G7 nations Joe Biden will be better at working towards a global recovery from Covid-19.
“And it is better for climate change – we are chairing a very importance climate change conference next year and it is important we have someone like Joe Biden there who will work with us on bringing about improvements.”
Mr Javid added overall the result was better for Britain and, when he appeared on the Sophie Ridge on Sunday Podcast yesterday, he said Trump had done a lot of damage to democracy, labelling his behaviour as ‘adolescent’.
“It will be good to see civility, integrity and seriousness return to the White House.”
