A LOCAL food bank has been given a boost by a £3189.50 donation from NFU Mutuals Bromsgrove and Redditch branch.
The Basement Project offers drop-in and floating support services to young people under 25, including helping those who are homeless or facing homelessness.
The charity now runs a food bank which was set up initially as a response to peoples changing needs during the pandemic.
Demand for the food bank has increased this year due to the cost-of-living crisis.
The donation will allow for a greater distribution of food parcels within the community during the festive period, and the Basement Project hopes this will help over 500 people, around double the number it was able to supply last Christmas.
NFU Mutual set up its Agency Giving Fund two years ago to support frontline charities during the pandemic, with branches able to nominate the local causes they would like to support.
Gary Ford, from the Bromsgrove and Redditch agency, said: “The Basement Project is such a worthy recipient of our donation because the whole team of staff and volunteers work incredibly hard to help reduce food poverty within the community.”
The Basement Project CEO Jerry Robinson added: “We are most grateful for this significant contribution which will help improve the lives of those most in need during the festive season.
“Without the generous support of all our benefactors, we would not be able to support the young people in our community who are in crisis.”
