AN INDEPENDENT travel agency has posted its best start to a trading year with sales having increased with sales up by more than 60 per cent on the same period last year.
And Barnt Green Travel Lounge’s prospects are set to continue to grow as it becomes more renowned for its high quality personal customer service that people sometimes do not get with larger firms.
Managing director Mike Allsop from the agency, based in Hewell Road in the village, said: “It’s an amazing start to the year and showing no sign of slowing down.
“The amount of new customers coming in to see us is phenomenal, we are hearing stories about how they were let down by online companies during Covid, who they couldn’t speak to or didn’t reply to emails.
“Customers are enjoying the personal touch with honest opinion and advice, they are also telling us it’s time to support local businesses who have been on the edge for the last few years.
“We have had a rough few years in travel but it does now seem to be getting moving again, with sales up by over 60 per cent on the same period last year we are predicting a bumper year for holidays.
“More customers are looking for luxury destinations and cruises, whilst the family holidays are going really well and with Jet2 announcing extra capacity for early summer things are sure to continue growing.
“The focus over the last couple of years has been survival now we are looking to enjoy and grow and that is sure to happen with the amazing support of our customers.”
We reported in 2020 how Mike had labelled the year the worst he had ever seen during his whole time as a travel agent.
Restrictions brought in during the pandemic made it difficult for people to travel and that was compounded by the collapse of airlines.
But, prior to Covid, Barnt Green Travel Lounge was flying high.
After moving to the village in 2016, the company won the prestigious ‘Best Independent Travel Agent’ in the Midlands Enterprise Awards in 2018 and 2019.
The accolades are given solely on merit for the hard work they do to go above and beyond their competitors.
