BARNT Green Choral Society completed its busy Christmas programme with a fine carol concert.
It started with a chamber choir from Barnt Green Choral singing the annual memorial service at Waseley Hills Crematorium on December 9.
The uplifting service was attended by many families bereaved in the last 12 months who grieved and gave thanks for the lives of those they had lost.
Many found great comfort and solace from the singing and the event has now become a regular feature of Barnt Green Choral’s calendar.
The choir’s main Christmas Concert took place at St Andrew’s Church, Barnt Green, on Saturday and was followed by a ‘mince pie party’ in the Parish Hall.
The church was packed and a really fun, family atmosphere was created by conductor and compere extraordinaire, Steve Cowperthwaite.
The choir sang Christmas songs in many different styles, ranging from Paul McCartney to John Rutter.
St Andrew’s School choir captured the hearts of everyone, and a five-piece wind ensemble demonstrated the power of live instrument playing.
Mr Cowperthwaite said: “The choir excelled themselves and it was so good to have the St Andrews children involved.”
One of the band said he really enjoyed playing and labelled the choir ‘superb’.
The refreshments team rose to the occasion and its leader Simon joked about writing a book entitled: ‘101 things you can do with a mince pie’.
The choir’s rehearsals restart on January 5 when preparations begin for ‘The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace’ by Karl Jenkins and ‘Song of the Universal’ by Ola Gjeilo.
These works will be performed at Artrix on Saturday 28 March 2026.
