A BARNT GREEN author is among those in the running for a top literary award after being nominated for two titles dedicated to First World War Naval History.

The titles Blockade and Formidable by Steve Dunn were voted onto the shortlist for the prestigious 2016 Mountbatten Maritime Award.

The accolade is part of the Maritime Media Awards, launched in 1995 by the Maritime Foundation to honour writers and film makers whose work deepens public understanding of Britain’s dependence on the sea.

Steve said: “Having two books nominated is particularly exciting.

“I obviously feel passionate about my subject but it’s great to get official recognition and acknowledgment that my books are making an impact and helping to turn the spotlight on maritime issues.”

Blockade gives the British Navy the credit it deserves for the role it played in the defeat of Germany in the First World War and Formidable tells the story of the first British battleship to be lost to submarine action and uses stories of the dead and the survivors to reveal the truth behind the disaster.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Institute of Directors in London on October 25.
