THREE high-profile guests have been announced to headline this year’s Hate Crime Awareness Conference in Bromsgrove.

Azeem Rafiq, an inspiring anti-racism campaigner, the Rt. Hon. Stuart Lawrence, motivational speaker and younger brother of hate crime victim Stephen Lawrence, and award-winning music producer Shahid Khan, more commonly known as Naughty Boy, will be speaking at the event.

North Worcestershire Hate Incident Partnership has decided to host the event in person, making it the first since Covid.

Hate Crime Awareness week aims to share the stories of incidents that can happen to people from all walks of life.

Coun Margaret Sherrey, Bromsgrove District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Safety, said: “It is important that we voice the stories of those who have suffered from hate crime so that we can all make changes to ensure this does not happen to others in the future.

“This year, our team have managed to secure some wonderful, high-profile speakers, and it looks set to be a very interesting and informative event.”

The event will take happen on October 14 between 10am and midday at Parkside in Bromsgrove.

Across the week, some activities will also occur across the districts in support of the weeklong national campaign, which aims to raise awareness of how to recognise hate crimes.

Bromsgrove residents can also attend a pop-up event on October 11 between 11pm and 2pm on the High Street.

The pop-up event will provide advice on how people can report crimes and support victims.
