TOWN composer Roger Jones is celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary with a special performance with his wife Mary on July 9 at Bromsgrove’s Baptist Church.
His performance with Mary and Christian Music Ministries (CMM) will feature a revised version of ‘Saints Alive’ a play he first wrote in the 1980s.
Roger said: “I asked my wife how she would like to spend our wedding anniversary.
“Her answer was simple, by being with friends and family and making music together”.
Roger has composed 24 musicals and recently released a new album ‘Songs of Easter’ with CMM.
He met his wife Mary at Grenfell Baptist Church, where they got married in 1972.
He has been writing musicals since 1973 and has performed across the UK as well as in countries such as France, Germany, the US, India and Cyprus.
In 2018 he was awarded the Mary Jones prize. The annual award recognises those in the UK who have worked to keep the story of Welsh girl Mary Jones alive.
Roger’s musical, ‘Greater than Gold’ retells the story of Mary Jones and her bible.
In 2019 he won the Thomas Cranmer Award for Worship, in recognition of his more than 40 years in the industry.
The award was given to him by The Archbishop of Canterbury.
