Author's book talk delves into life caring for loved ones

Bromsgrove Editorial 2nd Nov, 2023   0

A TALK to hear about the role hospice’s can play in the lives of people who need around the clock care will be given in Bromsgrove.

It will be hosted by award-winning author, Hazel Carter and local resident, Peter McNougher at St Andrews Church Parish Centre in Barnt Green on Sunday, November 5 from 3pm to 5pm.

Tracey Lucas, head of the pastoral care team at St Andrews Parish Centre, will be asking the questions, including those from the audience. Emotional support will be provided if needed.

Hazel Carter recently wrote a book about the ups and downs of her and her husband’s traveling adventures after he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the most common form of motor neurone disease (MND) and was given between six months and 2 years to live.

She also explores the challenges of providing care in their home and how their deep love for each other kept them strong. And shares her private thoughts and feelings, and tips she hopes readers will find useful.

The event is free to attend and Hazel will be around after the event to sign copies of her book – ‘Life’s Good – it’s the disease that’s the problem’.

Peter McNougher said: “The book is a love story and a strong message about making the most of the time we have.

“Of course, there are sad moments, but it is not a sad talk, in fact previous listeners have said they were worried it might not be for them but they were really glad they came along.”

100 per cent of the proceeds from the sale of the books is split between MND Association, Marie Curie and the Myton Hospices.

Booking is essential. Email Peter at [email protected] or call 07890 800121 to reserve a slot.
