A RESTAURANT in Aston Fields has been named the jewel in Worcestershire’s dining crown after winning a prestigious regional award.

Canary & Kitchen on New Road, Aston Fields claimed the Taste of Worcestershire Award at the county’s annual celebration of hospitality and tourism last Friday (March 21).

The restaurant is the brainchild of Birmingham-based former Masterchef contestant Michael Rossiter-Eaglesfield and opened in April 2023.

It’s an intimate eight-seater space featuring an open kitchen with design features inspired by homes in the Canary Islands in a nod to Michael’s wife, Antonia’s Mediterranean heritage.

Michael’s inspiration for the restaurant was to expand his home dining experiences into a fully fledged independent eatery with rotating taster menus.

Michael told the Standard: “We are absolutely thrilled to have won. This recognition means the world to us as a small, independent restaurant.

“Being recognised not only for our food but also for our creativity and dedication to hospitality is an incredible honour.

“To have this commitment and all our hard work over the past 2 years acknowledged is truly humbling.

“A huge thank you to our incredible customers – your support, kind words, and love for what we do make this journey so special. We couldn’t have done it without you.

“Here’s to many more unforgettable meals and moments together.”

Michael’s restaurant was up against strong competition, in three other worthy venues for the Taste of Worcestershire Award. Canary & Kitchen came out above Faun in Malvern, Hogarths Stone Manor in Kidderminster, and Unwined Bar and Bistro in Tenbury Wells.

The glamorous awards evening was held at Three Counties Showground and was hosted by TV presenter and food expert, Chris Bavin. The event attracted over 370 attendees from across the business community.

The event also raised £3,500 in vital funds for local charity, Midlands Air Ambulance. Visit Worcestershire winners will now be put forward to the VisitEngland Awards of Excellence.

Lorna Robinson, visitor economy and destination manager at Visit Worcestershire said: “The awards have been an amazing celebration of Worcestershire’s incredible tourism sector.

“Every single finalist and winner should feel truly proud of their achievements.”
