AN ARTIST who has run classes at Bromsgrove Library has donated her ‘Cornfields in Worcestershire’ painting so it can be auctioned off to raise funds for a county mental health charity.

The piece done by Raya Brown, who runs the Magic Wool Art and Craft Studio, will be auctioned off for Mind of Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

The picture has been created using a ‘wool watercolour’ technique where the artist ‘paints with fibres’, such as Merino wool and silk which are placed on the fabric as brushstrokes would.

Raya was invited to help with the event by complementary therapist Victoria Hart.

Raya said it was a cause close to her heart because she knew a lot of people who faced mental health struggles, including her best friend has been diagnosed with schizofrenia.

She also believes art has a power to heal by raising people’s self-esteem.

The auction which will feature other items from Worcestershire businesses, takes place between 11am and 2pm tomorrow at Defford Village Hall in Pershore.

Raya will soon be starting three-month courses in art for people of all abilities.
