A MAN was arrested on suspicion of child sexual assault and a racially aggravated public order offence on Coombes Lane in Longbridge around 4pm on Friday June, 9.
The man was also charged with criminal damage and assaulting a police officer, and bailed to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court on July 11.
He has been bailed with strict conditions to not have unsupervised contact with a child under 18.
The arrest followed multiple incidents of a man ‘approaching school children’ at two schools in Longbridge, one on Coombes Lane and one on Longbridge Lane.
A letter addressed to parents and carers of one of the schools detailed a child being involved in an unwanted interaction with an unknown adult male outside school gates.
The letter confirmed the child was shaken but did not come to any harm.
The incident was reported to the schools police liaison team and the letter confirmed an increase in staff presence at the end of school days.
The school said they would advise students on how to report suspicious activity and how to stay vigilant on the journey to and from school.
One parent expressed their fears on social media: “My children walk to school alone I’m so scared now.”
