HEARTLESS thieves stole a Bromsgrove war veteran’s beloved beret on the day this year’s Poppy Appeal was launched.
Albert Malin, who served as part of the Baltic Fleet campaign and on D-Day, also had his scarf and gloves taken from his mobility scooter around midday on October 26.
Albert said he hoped the scarf and gloves would keep someone else warm throughout the winter but he wants his beloved beret back.
Jules Evans, from the Bromsgrove Royal British Legion, said: “Albert is heartbroken about losing his beloved beret so let’s make this too hot to handle.
“We are urging whoever has Albert’s beret to return it anonymously to the Asda customer service desk.”
Albert used to wear the beret around town and has worn it to previous Remembrance Parades he has attended over the years.
