AN ANGLER has caught a 27lb 2oz pike in the Worcester and Birmingham Canal at Alvechurch.
Jon Burton got in touch with the Worcester-Birmingham and Droitwich Canals Society after his catch on Thursday while he was out with his ten-year-old daughter.
Jon said he had caught small pike and perch in the canal before but nothing this big which beat his previous personal best of 10lb.
He said: “It was a struggle to lift for the photographs to be honest.
“We released the pike healthy and well back into her habitat for future captures if other people are lucky enough.
“The pike took a small 5″ long soft plastic lure on a weighted jig head single hook on a light lure outfit and weighed in at 27lb 2oz.”
John said he had fished all his life from the age of five, mainly match fishing at local venues, but had never caught anything like this.
“This is truly a capture of a lifetime and even more so from canal.
The canal fishing rights are owned by BAA.
