BOSSES at Everyone Active which runs Bromsgrove Community Leisure Centre have provided an update on the situation regarding the main pool closure.

The pool was closed until further notice on February 9 due to a leak.

As well as the general public, Bromsgrove Swimming Club also train there but have managed to find alternative provision at King Edwards Five Ways in Bartley Green.

This week one centre member said he and other swimmers had become frustrated by the seeming lack of action.

“Everyone is up in arms about it – it has been out of action for more than two months now – we’ve been asking the staff there but no-one seems to know what’s going on.

“One of them told me to use the small pool but it’s only short and I swim a mile at a time and I don’t think the families would be too happy with me splashing past them.”

And he questioned if members would be getting a refund.

“I pay £30 per month which I see as £15 for the gym and £15 for the pool but I haven’t been able to access half of what I’m paying for.

“Are they going to reimburse us?

“I live in Redditch and can get to the centre in ten minuites.

“The staff have told me I can use the Everyone Active pools in Studley or at Tudor Grange in Solihull but it will cost me more in petrol to get there.

“Plus I don’t think they’ll have the capacity at those pools if all the swimmers who use Bromsgrove go there.”

Wayne Desmond, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “Work to repair the main pool at Bromsgrove Sport and Leisure Centre is ongoing.

“Due to unavoidable delays, we cannot specify how long this work will take and when the pool will reopen, but expect to update customers in the next week.

“Our priority is that customers continue to keep active during this period, so where possible, we have transferred swimming sessions and lessons to the smaller pool.

“Customers can also use the pools at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre in Solihull and Studley Leisure Centre during the closure.

“We have frozen the swim-only memberships of customers who are unable to access alternative swimming facilities.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will continue to work with the council and our contractors to get the pool open as soon as possible.”
