Ambitious plans unveiled by Bromsgrove Rovers to expand grassroots work

Bromsgrove Editorial 4th Jan, 2024   0

AMBITIOUS plans have been unveiled by Bromsgrove Rovers AFC to expand its grassroots and youth development set-ups following rapid growth in the number of youngsters wanting to progress their footballing development with the club, writes Neil Gordon.

The exciting plans will see the number of youth teams increasing from 12 to 18, to include two new teams representing the under 7s age group for the first time and a third under 10s side being formed.

Two new pitches have been secured at Charford Recreation ground for use from this month.

Growth has continued across numerous age groups at the club including the Wild Cats non-competitive football sessions for girls aged five to 11, the mixed-pan disability football group, and Little

Rovers which encourages boys and girls ages four to seven to perform physical activities while learning to play football.

There are also plans to launch an open-age women’s side and establish teams from the Wild Cats girls’ football sessions.

The additional teams and new age groups will become vital additions to the club’s feeder system which has been established to provide players with the opportunity to progress all the way through the Rovers’ ranks from under 7s to the adults side.

Rovers AFC’s vice-chairman Ian Hannis said: “We are very excited about using Charford Recreation ground as it brings the club further into Bromsgrove as we look forward to giving more opportunities to children to participate in grassroots football.

“The expansion of our grassroots and youth development programmes provide fresh opportunities for new players, coaches and volunteers to get involved with the club, as we build on our commitment to more all-inclusive community-based football.”

The expansion to using Charford Rec came after an agreement was reached with Bromsgrove District Council, as the club sought to add much-needed additional facilities to its existing grassroots bases at Hopwood, near Alvechurch, and Stoke Prior Sports and Country Club.

Mr Hannis added: “Additional sponsorship opportunities have been created by this expansion for any businesses wanting to financially support either an individual team, or the club itself.”
